Bitubel Awards: Celebrating Bitumen Roofing Innovation
The prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo recently hosted the inaugural Bitubel “A roof made of bitumen” award ceremony. This event highlights the architectural possibilities and technical superiority of bituminous coverings for flat roofs.
More than 60 architects and students participated, submitting projects that pushed the boundaries of modern construction. A professional jury shortlisted 21 projects across four distinct categories:
- Residential
- Non-residential
- Renovation
- Students
This architecture contest is an initiative by Bitubel, the organization representing Belgium’s top four manufacturers of bituminous membranes, including Soprema. These awards underscore the proven durability and aesthetic potential of bitumen in contemporary architecture.
