The rapidly increasing population is driving urbanization. Space is becoming scarce and nature in particular seems to have lost its place. At Enduroflex we want to go against this and we have a clear goal: to bring nature back to places where people are! We do this by transforming places into a green oasis. Not only do we give lost space on roofs and walls a new purpose, but we also like to work out complete green projects from A to Z. From a herb wall in a restaurant to the planting of monumental ruin walls. Every square meter of green space is a step towards a pleasant and sustainable future for us!
The purpose of a roof is that it protects us from wind and weather. A conventional roof perfectly meets those requirements, but it can also be much more than just protection. As a green roof for example!
With a green roof, the covering consists mainly of living plants. The name ‘green roof’ is actually a bit misleading. After all, such a roof does not have to be really green. The color depends on the choice of plants, the seasons and the weather conditions.
Only plants such as roof coverings are of course not sufficient. A correct basis with a suitable structure structure, a suitable growth medium and the right facilities for drainage are essential. It therefore requires a great deal of knowledge and expertise to create a beautiful and healthy green roof, and that is precisely where Enduroflex’s expertise lies .
Enduroflex and DuO Green has for years been THE reference in extensive green roofs with more than 350,000 m² of installed green roofs. Our achievements range from intimate projects of less than 20 m² to large prestigious projects of more than 20,000 m². With our different systems we can serve everyone as desired. We even have some unique lightweight solutions, so that no square meter of roof has to remain unused.
Do you trust the installation of your green roof to a specialist in green or a specialist in roofs? A compromise that you don’t have to make with Enduroflex because our experience is unparalleled!
The green roof not only functions as an extra protective layer for your roof against UV radiation, weather and wind, but also protects against mechanical damage. This extends the life of your roof covering considerably.
Because a green roof considerably increases the total roof package, noises are added.
The vegetation on green roofs filters dust particles and absorbs gases, including CO2. During the biochemical process in which plants convert light into energy, they release the CO2 back into the atmosphere in the form of oxygen.
Empty surfaces are transformed into beautiful green zones that are perfectly visible from higher buildings. This indirectly increases the value of the building.
Visibly investing in nature will always receive a positive response.
In urban environments the air is drier and the temperature higher. In the summer the temperature in cities can be up to 7 ° C higher than in the countryside. This phenomenon is the result of the 'Urban Heat Island' effect. Green roofs counteract this phenomenon.
Every green roof is a natural habitat where fauna and flora have the opportunity to develop.
Green roofs are capable of retaining water. The water therefore enters the sewerage system with some delay, which considerably reduces the risk of overloading.
According to research, the efficiency of solar panels on a green roof is 9 to 16% higher than the efficiency of solar panels on a normal roof.
Studies show that green environments have a positive influence on the state of mind and physical health of people.
Every type of green roof needs maintenance.
Extensive green roofs require very little maintenance. In the first year of life it is advisable to inspect the extensive vegetation preferably every three months. After that, one inspection per year is sufficient.
Maintenance is usually limited to:
Intensive green roofs generally require the same maintenance level as a normal garden. The choice of plants will determine the extent and frequency of the necessary care.
Drain mat DBGS DRAIN 8 is used for the drainage of garden and vegetation roofs, as well as extra protection for the underlying waterproofing layer.
The mineral substrate XF 200/201 is used in extensive green roofs with a multi-layer roof seal.
The XF 107 rock wool mat is used as an air- and water-containing layer under vegetation roofs with extensive vegetation with a slight slope.
It is used when:
Combination vegetation mat XF 301 is a pre-grown mat for extensive vegetation roofs with almost no maintenance. These are equipped with mosses and sedums, for sunny or semi-shady environments.
Due to the strong plastic structure, this mat is suitable for sloping roofs.
Wonderful, turning your roof into a green oasis. Something for everyone: do you opt for a simple green roof or do you prefer a real vegetable garden? Everything is possible!
In principle, green roofs can be applied to any surface, as long as the load-bearing capacity of the roof allows the permanent load on the green roof. We can divide green roofs into two types, based on the required maintenance:
This type of green roof requires little maintenance and can consist of mosses, succulents and herbs. These slow-growing plants do not need to be pruned or mowed and, moreover, can live without water for a long time. No problem so if it is not raining.
Not only are the plants able to store a lot of water, but the excess rainwater will also be released in a delayed manner. After all, an extensive green roof acts as a natural buffer in the event of heavy rainfall.
Not only flat roofs but also slightly sloping roofs (1-35 °) can be provided with an extensive green roof. The green roof also acts as extra protection for the roof against UV radiation, extreme temperatures and noise.
The maintenance level of an intensive green roof is a lot higher than with an extensive green roof and, just like with a traditional garden, depends on the choice of plants. For example, grass will have to be mowed frequently during the summer months and trees and shrubs need to be pruned occasionally.
Just as with an extensive green roof, excess rainwater will be released in a delayed way since the green roof acts as a natural buffer. The green roof also acts as extra protection for the roof against UV radiation, extreme temperatures and noise.
The considerable substrate layer does, however, create greater structural requirements and you must take this into account in the design phase of the building.
Extensive green roofs:
The choice of plants is mainly limited to sedum, mosses and in some cases herbs.
Intensive green roofs:
A free choice of plants allows all options: from flowerbeds to lawns, shrubs and trees.
Please note: plant species with an aggressive root system or taproot are not suitable for green roofs.
The plants use this layer to root. This is therefore the most important part of the green roof system and can consist of a mineral substrate or a rock wool layer.
As substrate for the plants, the substrate must not only have the correct physical, chemical and biological composition. Ventilation and water management are also of great importance. We adjust the layer thickness to the desired vegetation. Larger plants naturally require a thicker substrate layer.
This optional layer acts as an additional water buffer. A water-containing geotextile or mineral wool is provided underneath the growth medium to obtain sufficient water retention.
The choice to provide this extra layer depends on the vegetation chosen, the maximum building height and the load on the roof.
This layer consists of two filter webs with a central curling mat in between.
Due to this specific structure, this layer fulfills three functions:
A green roof cannot simply be laid on any type of roofing material, since the roots of plants will always look for water. It is therefore important to choose a type of roof covering that is resistant to root growth. DuO HT Landscape is the ideal roof covering for this.
Benefits of green roof Sydney and wall areas:
Root Resistant
A flexible waterproofing membrane with a dual reinforcement and a double polymeric bitumen coating.
This membrane is designed as a cap sheet for multi-layer or single layer torched application, for root resistant waterproofing systems (green roofing).
APP Basesheet
A flexible waterproofing membrane consisting of a mixture of penetration bitumen, improved with APP (Atatic PolyProplene). The material is reinforced with a non woven polyester of 175 g/m2.
